I was working a good job with a good family company.
This situation lasted for two full years! Well, there was a lay-off in between, but they asked me back for another year. Because I was that good of an employee I guess, ...why else would they rehire? LOL Right?
First year we all worked together was harmonious. We all got along with each other. Things were fun, Family actually gave me a Christmas Bonus of a $100 Bill.
That all Changed 2nd Year around!!!
Son decided to abandon his father's family business and work for another company...
No problem was done, because his father and I managed to get a shitload of work done BECAUSE the son wasn't around! (Boss actually said that to me)
We had contracts done, work busy.. But then Bosses Son gets laid off and comes back to Daddy's Business...
Son needs to have his soap box ready... Sees Me and Daddy doing well.... Son gets to being disruptive in order to win Daddy's #1 spot again. (Only reason I can think of because he was so mean to me from the day he came back)
Get Coworkers to his side he makes up bullshit stories. SABOTAGE!
He did great with the sabotage, because co-workers fell for it, SIMPLY BECAUSE HE WAS BOSSES SON!!!
All that said, these same coworkers couldn't stand to work with him because all he did was Lean on a shovel and talk about his shopping wishes and financial debets. (Co-workers words, not mine)
NOBODY liked working with him, but he still thought everybody did, which was sad.
I truly liked the guy, but he tried too hard. But I STILL tried to get through to him because we used to get along so well before. It was pointless, a linear thought process of his was set in motion and I couldn't stop it. He hated me for some stupid reason!
THEN CAME THE (INITIAL LAYOFF)
I was left alone to fill bulk heads with concrete. Tools that I needed were dropped off by Boss in the one and only company vehicles. (Which was being used illegally because it has a fake inspection sticker)
Boss never returned to check on progress.
I finished job to the best of ability and resorted to Hiding tools on site because there was no Company utility vehicle to store them in. I hid them so well that he had to call me to ask where they where..
I got the job done.
The following week, Boss called me to say there wasn't any work to do.
Wednesday at around 11:43 am. His Exact word were, "Well, there doesn't seem to be anything to do for awhile, so you may as well come in to get papers so you can start your Employment Insurance."
Alright, thanks for saying so. But I had a Loan payment due that same week and I complained about it. Then somebody mentioned, "SEVERANCE PAY" if you worked more than 6 months. I looked it up and I read it and saw that it was TRUE!
I posted the fact 's of my finding to Facebook to a private post, and ONE person said, "They don't do severance."
I said they have to! The NB law said they have to.
Well little miss big mouth had to contact Bosses Wife and tell her that I was seeking Severance.
Next thing you know, I'm being laid off due to shortage of work, to DISMISSED for some bullshit reason about leaving tools on site! And No severance because construction companies don't abide by that law.
I respected the owner of this company. I gave a lot of my time for this company, recently wasted over 300 KM in gas in my own personal vehicle for this company without compensation.
Yet, I left a fucking $40 tool on a job site.
For f' sakes!
